Derry Girls proved a huge success with viewers when it first aired in January and we’ve been getting very excited about season two – which completed filming last Friday.
The laugh-out-loud show follows the lives of four schoolgirls in Derry during the 1990s and it captured the hearts of viewers, going far beyond just a comedy.
The Channel 4 series became the most successful Northern Irish TV show based on views since records began in 2002.
Now one of the show’s cast members has revealed when fans can expect to see the second season and hinted that a film version could also be on the way.
Comedian Tommy Tiernan, who plays Da Gerry, appeared on Today FM’s The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show where he confirmed that fans will definitely get a third season, while a movie has been discussed.

“We finished filming the second series (of Derry Girls) last Friday so that’ll go out in March,” he said. “We’re doing season 3 and then a film maybe”.
While a film version hasn’t been guaranteed just yet, Tiernan said that it’s up to the show’s creator Lisa McGee, who he hailed a ‘genius’, on whether or not we get a big screen adaptation.
“That’s all up to Lisa (McGee),” Tiernan added. “That’s her going away and sitting in a shed in London and just coming up with all the stories”
“She’s a genius I think in terms of the amount of stories she’s able to fit into each episode and I think it’s fantastic”.
McGee recently revealed that the show’s second season will focus on the peace process, telling the Belfast Telegraph: “It’s moving through the early stages of the Peace Process. In terms of the gang and what they get up to it’s just a bit bigger and crazier.”
“Some of the episodes are quite out there, some of the ideas, but they are much the same as well, they are still the losers who never get anything right and they always have a scheme on the go that never works out for them.”

Jack Hrafnkell Daníelsson er fæddur í lok janúar 1965 í Reykjavík en ólst upp á sveitabæ á Snæfellsnesi.
Ég hef alltaf haft mikin áhuga á fréttum og stjórnmálum ásamt öllu því sem fylgr því en eitt af því er þegar stjórnmálafólk getur ekki verið heiðarlegt.
Ég hef á síðari árum einbeitt mér mest að skrfum um málefni öryrkja, aldraðra og þeirra sem erfiðast eiga með að verja sig gagnvart því gríðarlega óréttlæti sem þessir hópar þurfa að búa við.
Ég hef alltaf átt erfitt með að horfa upp á óréttlæti og slæma framkomu við minnihlutahópa því stofnaði ég þennan vettvang til að leyfa rödd þeirra að heyrast í þjóðfélaginu.
Í seinni tíð hef ég meira einbeitt mér að því að skoða staðreyndavillur í umræðunni, benda á þær og sýna fram á staðreyndir með heimildum, tenglum og rökum.
